Large-volume producer targets quality, profitability and customer satisfaction using real-time SPC software
The company plans to further assure its reputation for the finest quality rimfire ammunition by upgrading its legacy DOS-based SPC system with real-time SPC throughout its operations. Plans include immediate roll-out of WinSPC to ten internal departments spread across several manufacturing facilities. The small-caliber ammunition supplier will test product dimensions such as bullet length and weight and chart the data in real-time, allowing operators to monitor and reduce process variation and keep manufactured products close to target. WinSPC will be used to track as many as thirty critical dimensions based upon standard and user-defined control testing conditions. Additionally, WinSPC’s reporting tools will allow the company to quickly generate process capability reports for management and defense-based customers. By automating SPC and using real-time capability reports, the company expects to improve manufacturing processes and increase customer satisfaction.
DataNet’s Solution Delivery Team has been contracted to provide on-site training to the company’s system administrators who are responsible for managing the system. In addition, the Solution Delivery Team will install and configure the software and set up parts, devices, reports and the plant-wide monitoring system as well as manage the import of 17,000 Excel data files into WinSPC.
The company chose WinSPC for its ease of use, the ability to produce fast, real-time capability reports, and its ability to interact with the company’s scales, micrometers, calipers and other standard gauges used at each of the collection stations.
