Planning Aids
When evaluating real-time SPC options, Quality teams can get stuck at a couple of points. They may, for instance, not be convinced that the return-on-investment (ROI) justifies the project. Or they may feel at a loss about the steps required to bring in an implementation on time and on budget. To help with these concerns, the WinSPC team has prepared a couple of planning aids: an ROI worksheet and a project plan template.
ROI Worksheet
The ROI worksheet is a downloadable Excel file. It consists of 7 straightforward steps (with easy-to-follow instructions). In it, you simply enter key values that are specific to your operations–your per unit cost, for example, and your average monthly volume. Once it has your inputs, the worksheet does the rest, automatically calculating your:
- Time to implement WinSPC
- Projected average monthly and yearly savings
- Time to recover your implementation costs (including the costs of your WinSPC licenses)
- And ongoing yearly ROI that can be expected
Typically, the worksheet can be completed in thirty minutes, depending on how quickly the specific values it requires can be located.
For additional information on the value that SPC can deliver, watch our Measuring the Value of SPC webinar.
Project Plan Template
The project plan template, like the ROI worksheet, is a downloadable Excel file. It breaks down an implementation into five distinct phases:
- Preparation for Implementation
- Installation, Configuration, Training and Pilot
- Deployment to All Other Operations
- Go Live
- Ongoing Monitoring
A key step in an implementation is the pilot. It consists of capturing data for a small number of operations and gives you a chance to really see how WinSPC works and what each participant’s role is. It also gives you a real-world way to test your WinSPC database and the other technical points of an implementation. Once you’ve got things running smoothly in the pilot, you’ll be able to confidently rollout the program to all your operations.
But, even though the template is thorough, you’re not on your own. Our WinSPC Support team is just a phone call away to help you with whatever you need. We also offer implementation packages. These allow you to offload some or all of the phases to our experienced, professional engineers.

Benchmarks Worksheet
The benchmarks worksheet lays out the steps to successfully execute a real-time SPC initiative. The steps to successful execution are:
- Deploy
- Measure
- Analyze
- Improve
- Control
